About research
Research carried out for the Scottish Government is categorised into four core areas:
- Social Research - Measures, describes, explains and predicts changes in social and economic structures, and the attitudes values and behaviours of individuals and groups in society.
- Environment, Biology and Agricultural Research - Scientific research on environmental, biological and agricultural issues.
- Chief Scientist Office - Supports and encourages research to improve the health of the people in Scotland and the services provided by the NHS.
- Economic Research - Used to inform and stimulate the debate on the efficient uses of resources in the Scottish Government.
