It outlines the commitment of the Scottish Government's intention to continue to actively engage with this global agenda, and defines Scotland's distinctive contribution and approach to international development. With a focus on working in partnership and achieving real and tangible outcomes on the ground, the Policy seeks to build upon both the historical and contemporary relationships that exist between Scotland and the developing world.

9 February - On 9 February Sport Relief announced the Scottish Sport Relief Home and Away Programme, a new grants programme to benefit some of the most disadvantaged people living in Scotland and the world’s poorest countries.
The Scottish Government is pleased to be first contributor to the programme with contributions of £1.25m each from the Scottish Government ‘s Health portfolio and International Development Fund. Sport Relief are match funding the Scottish Government’s contribution and will be undertaking further fund raising to provide additional funds under this programme. With contributions from the International Development Fund and Health portfolio our combined contribution demonstrates the Scottish Government’s commitment to tackle a range of issues in Scotland and in the poorest countries across the Commonwealth. The programme incorporates funding and support for work at “home “ within Scotland as well as an “away” element demonstrating Scotland’s contribution to international development.

The Scottish Government has today opened funding rounds for its Malawi Development Programme and Sub-Saharan Africa Programme for projects starting in 2012-13.
For the Malawi Development Programme, applications are invited under all four strands of the Co-operation Agreement - Health, Education, Civil Society and Governance, and Sustainable Economic Development. Applicants must have a Scottish presence and be working with partner organisations in Malawi.
For the Sub-Saharan Development Programme, we are inviting applications for projects in Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia. Applicants must have a Scottish presence.

A scoping study conducted by the Strathclyde University funded by the International development fund to understand how off-grid, community-level renewable energy technology can contribute towards meeting Malawi's energy needs has now concluded. The final report is now available.
