In October 2010 the UK Government announced the outcome of its review of public bodies, which included outline plans to abolish Consumer Focus and the Office of Fair Trading. Following this, Scottish Ministers invited key Scottish stakeholders to form a working group to consider how to optimise future arrangements in Scotland.
The UK Government's consultation Empowering and Protecting Consumers invited views on a range of proposals by 27 September 2011. The Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism, Fergus Ewing, wrote to the UK Minister for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs, Edward Davey, on 22 September 2011 to set out the views of the Scottish Government.
